Lavender is known to have antidepressant and mood improving properties, relaxes the nervous system, relieves muscle spasms, potentiate the relaxing effect of GABA receptors. Traditionally used at bed time mostly as tea and oils. Lavandula angustifolia, also known as true lavender, is the only species widely recognized for its medicinal properties. It contains high levels of linalool and linalyl acetate—natural compounds known for their calming, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial effects. Other lavender types are primarily valued for their ornamental beauty or fragrance, but they lack the same therapeutic potency and can even cause irritation. That’s why L. angustifolia is the gold standard in clinical aromatherapy and herbal medicine.
