It is a widely used herb and has a long tradition for medicinal users and the elderly believe it to cure 99 conditions. Traditionally used to support the nervous system, to relieve anxiety, low mood and many more including neuralgia. Has sedative properties and can be used to improve sleep quality. Used to improve digestion, chronic intestinal dysbiosis, stomach and duodenal ulcers, metabolic processes and detoxification.

St John's wort (Hyperricum perforatum) is a powerful herb that works very well and for that reason is one of the most scientifically researched. It is an excellent tonic for the nervous system and has a sedative effect. It appears to work on many different levels including on multiple brain chemicals. It is a well known and safe antidepressant working on the serotonin pathway as well as the MAO and GABA pathways in the brain. St John's wort used to improve mood and a beneficial effect on nerve pain including sciatica. In vitro has shown to have an antiviral action.

We known that his herb is a powerful inducer of cytochrome CYP450 an enzyme responsible for breaking down toxins and synthetic compounds including many medications. It also has an effect on pharmacokinetics of antidepressants of class SSRIs and others. This means more or less of a medications or synthetic compounds may be metabolised when taken alongside St John's wort, so please consult carefully with a naturopath, doctor or pharmacist before self-prescribing. It is not to be used with any antidepressants of class SSRIs and others. Clinical trials have shown St John's wort to be as effective as antidepressant medication for mild to moderate depression and with fewer side effects.
