The faecal multiplex DNA PCR test is capable of rapid, specific and sensitive detection of the bacterial and parasitic pathogens most commonly responsible for causing infectious gastroenteritis that may otherwise go undetected by traditional microbiological techniques. This test looks for the genetic fingerprint of a wide range of pathogens. This is a far more sensitive test than the old fashioned technique of looking through a microscope.
